AAQI: Featuring Our Latest Quilt Donations!

Members of  my Liberated Quilting Challenge! have risen above and beyond these past feew weeks to create, and donate some wonderful new quilts for the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative. It hasn't been easy for any of us to make quilts before AAQI speeds to its grand finale and we have all gone above and beyond to make the deadline for getting our quilts in!

Keep your eyes and pocketbooks open as I do believe new sales page items and/or August Auction quilts will be available for purchase soon!

Michele Bilyeu has two new ones that are photographed on the AAQI website (one, I am so proud to say is AAQI Quilt # 15,000) and another 11 not yet scanned and awaiting assignment,  Andrea Balosky has six new quilts (on site already with photos) Jude Edling has three with photo and two  brand new ones that are awaiting scanning, and Laura Randolph, has donated another darling quilt that is also up on site.  All of the ones that have been scanned and therefore now have 'official AAQI photos' will appear very soon on our AAQI webpage.

Any quilt by any quilter can be located by a search in the AAQI website search box, either by an individual quilter's name or by the quilt number, if you know it.

This is how I find out who has made new quilts each month..the long hard way!  And speaking of that...kudos to Andrea Balosky (Nyima Llaso) who in spite of living way up in the Himalayan mountains of India always emails me ahead of time to let me know her latest registration numbers!
A labor of love for all of us, but especially challenging for her to get them to AAQI..how amazing!

We  'Liberated Quilting Challenge' quilters made it before the deadline and we deserve to be proud of all of our hard work!  So kudos this month to ALL of us!!!

Go, AAQI quilters and members of this Liberated Quilting Challenge!

AAQI: A Letter From Ami Simms

Monday, July 1st marked the halfway point in 2013. It was another milestone for the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative as the end or our last “public” year approaches.
With six months to go, is your glass half full? Or half empty?
Let’s see…

  • The July auction is in full swing right now. Another 27 wonderful quilts await your bids.

  • Quilting celebrities are sewing quilts for the November online auction right now.  Linda Carlson and Pat Holly have already finished their quilts. (Click each image to see a larger picture.)

  • There’s an excellent chance that we will reach our 15,000th donated quilt within the week!
  • Two more venues will be hosting “Alzheimer’s Illustrated: From Heartbreak to Hope.” You can see the exhibit (and volunteer to white glove it) at the Round Bobbin Quilt Expo in St Charles, MO on September 20 and 21 and at Siouxland Samplers Quit Guild Show in Sioux City, IA on September 28 and 29. (I’ll be attending the last show.)
  • Two more research facilities will be receiving grant money from the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative this month. We are still accepting grant applications and will award the final grants early in 2014.
  • It’s almost time to make the quilt tags in preparation for shipping more than 2,000 quilts to International Quilt Festival in Houston. I’ll be putting out a call for volunteers to help staff our mega-booth very soon. Watch this space.
I don’t know about you, but I’m busier than ever! My cup feels way more than half full! We have six months to reach our $1 million goal. Join us as we race to the finish!
