AAQI Gets Press in American Patchwork and Quilting!

American Patchwork & Quilting's August 2011 issue....just received in the mail by those with subscriptions (but not yet on most store shelves)...is featuring a wonderful article about Ami Simms and the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative!

They share Ami's story of how she turned the challenges and tragedy of her loss of her own mother to this terrible disease into a grassroots effort to raise funds for Alzheimer's research through our making and donating our little art quilts. It showcases information on our current traveling exhibit "Alzheimer's Illustrated: From Heartbreak to Hope and features photos of three quilts from the traveling exhibit. And I am so delighted to have one of my quilts be among those!

To read about my process of making my little quilt and how I connect emotionally through the plaques and tangles that have taken over my own mother's brain, read my original post on my personal blog: With Heart and Hands:

Mama's Brain Got Tangles....But Mama's Still Inside

To read about me driving from store to store in Salem wearing my cozy lounging pants, my egg picking back yard shoes, with my waistlong hair held up in a messy bun with a pencil..trying to find a copy of this magazine...read my personal blog post here:

With Heart and Hands: American Patchwork and Quilting

One of the nicest parts of making quilts for AAQI is we can work in the privacy of our own homes and quilt whenever we want to, wearing whatever we feel like wearing... and it doesn't matter what time we start work ,or what time we end our day, or how many coffee, tea, or pepsi breaks we take!

I am so very proud to be a part of this wonderful organization and be a small part of our amazing army of volunteers!
