Show Us Some AAQI Quilting Love!

Members of the Liberated Quilting Challenge share a common goal of exploring new ways of incorporating creative quilting into our own unique styles.  Currently, we are all members of  the  Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI

When I formed this group in January of 2010, my goal was to use my own dedication to this cause as the impetus to get other online quilting bloggers to do the same!  And boy, did they!

We have made and donated over 600 small format art quilts to this inspiring cause in less than two and a half years...and we are not a large group. While initially, I contact over 30 quilters, it is a very small, core group that has continually created these quilts for donation, so from my heart to yours..and you know who you all are..thank you so very, very much.

Whether you have donated one quilt, or dozens and dozens, you have inspired all of us with your creativity, your dedication to quilting for charitable causes and your caring for those of us whose loved ones ..or perhaps even ourselves...have been affected by the horrible, ugly, no good disease known as Alzheimer's.

The Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI  will have completed its goal of earning $1,000,000 by the sale of these tiny little quilts..this year by the end of 2013.  And our amazing founder, and leader, Ami Simms will be finalizing the sales of all of our donations, all of the AAQI programs such as the Quilt A Month Club  (which ends this July), the donation of all quilts (last registration is Sept. 1, 2013, and the sales of all quilts by the end of this year.

So, if you EVER wanted to make a quilt, buy a quilt, make a donation to AAQI...well, the time is not only nigh..it is now!

Information and directions for making an AAQI quilt for our group can be found at Liberated Challenge Group Instructions on our updated Liberated Quilting Challenge Blog. This site will also showcase individual quilts and quilters and update members on the latest news provided by the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative including the latest news on research funding, exhibits, and traveling quilt shows.

Quilts can be free-pieced, strip-pieced, fused, embroidered, or appliqued, or use any other expression or artistic elements as long as they are within the durability, handling, and storage requirements of AAQI. We seek to provide an opportunity for members to learn from one another through our blogs, message boards and web links, and to think in a liberated and "outside of the box" artistic format.
