AAQI Quilts!

Members of the Liberated Quilting Challenge group have shared  a common goal of exploring new ways of incorporating creative quilting into our own unique styles. Our quilts may be free-pieced, strip-pieced, fused, embroidered, or appliqued, or have used any other expression or artistic elements as long as they were within the durability, handling, and storage requirements of the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI)
 

We were formed in 2010 after I had decided that all of the new blogging quilters I had met online needed a way to explore their own versions of liberated quilting and to provide an opportunity for members to learn from one another through our blogs, message boards and web links. Our biggest encouragement is to think in a liberated and "outside of the box" artistic format no matter what level that might be for each of us, individually!

We are one of the largest, if not the largest, of quilting groups to have donated small format art quilts to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI)  and have donated well over 640 quilts in just a bit over 2 1/2 years. I am so very proud of these quilters, and their quilts!
 

As this is the last year for AAQI, and all registration for donating new quilts in now closed, every one is now encouraged to buy quilts for sale and/or make monetary donations as the profits from all of our sales go to fund Alzheimer's Disease research.  We are trying to reach our $1,000,000 goal before the end of this year.

The October online auction (Oct. 1-10, 2013)features quilts from "Alzheimer's Illustrated: From Heartbreak to Hope" as does the December online auction.

The November auction is the Celebrity Invitational Quilt Auction and then of course we will be making noise in the exhibit area at International Quilt Festival in Houston, October 30-November 3. We hope to offer more than 2,500 quilts. If things go as planned, we may reach the $1,000,000 mark in funds raised for research in Houston.
