Liberated Quilting Challenge: Group Instructions

The Liberated Quilting Challenge is a wonderful group of online quilters who are committed to creating and then donating 9"x 12" or smaller quilts or 4"x6" postcards to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative. (AAQI)

All quilts are either sold at the AAQI site, put up at an online auction, or brought to the Houston International Quilt Festival for sale at the AAQI booth.

In addition, AAQI has hosted two traveling exhibits and three of our current members have quilts that have been included in that exhibit. Many more of our members have donated purple ribbons with the names of friends and loved ones who have faced the challenges of this devastating disease. These purple name ribbons make up the 236 Name quilts that are the focus of this traveling exhibit. The AAQI traveling exhibit is known as Alzheimer's Illustrated: From Heartbreak to Hope and it will be traveling around the United States through 2015.

All profits from the donation and sale of our quilts go towards Alzheimer's Research funding. Selection of venue for your quilts are determined by the founder of AAQI, Ami Simms.

The Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative also brings between 1,000 to 1,500 quilts to Houston for the Houston International Quilt Festival every year, and many of us have had the opportunity to 'show a quilt in Houston' as a result of this wonderful cause.

All quilts must conform to the standards and sizing regulations of the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative, and must go through a registration process for AAQI quilt numbering, as well as notifying Michele Bilyeu at michelebilyeu@gmail.com of your quilt registration numbers in order to be included on our AAQI group page

Steps, links, and information:
1. Make A PRIORITY: ALZHEIMER'S QUILT or Quilted Postcard
Measure, and remeasure your quilt very carefully to make sure it is 9" x 12" or smaller as per AAQI requirements.
2. Register your Priority: Alzheimer's Quilts using the online form provided.
You will be sent registration receipt information immediately and then a follow-up registration number for each quilt within a few weeks.

3. Label your quilt, including quilt name, your name, and its AAQI registration number.

4. Mail your completely finished and labeled quilts to AAQI.
The mailing address will be included in your registration receipt information.
5. Notify Michele Bilyeu at michelebilyeu@gmail.com with each, and every quilt registration number for inclusion on our AAQI group page. You can also simply forward a copy of your registration number information to me when you receive that from AAQI.

Thanks so very much!
